Below are the Montessori books that rest on our bookshelves. Although they don't rest much as they are often used for reference, and to refresh on the Montessori philosophies and theories. Many of the books by Maria Montessori are from my AMI Montessori training (93/94) and were purchased through the FME (Foundation for Montessori Education, in Toronto, Ontario).
Beware when purchasing newer editions of the books written by Maria Montessori and translated by others. Often times the translations are lacking, and portions of the original text are missing - depending on which publisher you purchase from.
If you're a parent and you're looking for 1 book that explains how to best help your preschooler at home using the Montessori method then we highly recommend Montessori At Home!by John Bowman. In our opinion it's the
most thorough, affordable, and accessible ebook for parents wanting
to learn how to make and use Montessori early learning activities at home. You complete your payment and receive the eBook via email in a pdf file - now that's convenience!
You can also visit your local library and consider borrowing the following: The Absorbent Mind, How to Raise an Amazing Child, Montessori Madness!, Montessori From the Start, and Teaching Montessori in the Home.
If you're preparing to take your Montessori certification then
you should contact your training center and request a list of recommended books (including the
correct version/publisher). You can never read to many of Maria Montessori's books, so there's lots of reading in your future!
Unfortunately, we've not read every version from every publisher, so
we're unable to advise which publishers to avoid. You can view a list of
the books as recommended by Montessori-AMI.org - meaning they are AMI
approved translations.
