Montessori At Home!

Learn how you can have Montessori at home

John Bowman is the author of Montessori At Home! This eBook is easily accessible, affordable, and is packed with information on Montessori education, teaching techniques, making and using learning materials at home, and tips on how to be a great Home Teaching Parent. It has everything you need to give your child the benefits of a Montessori preschool - right at home.

Be sure to visit Montessori at Home and take a look at the sample pages available for viewing.

The following are some questions that we asked John in hopes of getting to know more about how Montessori at Home began, and what exciting things are going to be happening in the near future.

How did Montessori At Home start

In late 2009, a coworker told me about problems her four year old was having at day care. He was disruptive, and on the verge of expulsion! I assured her he was probably just fine and fished out some Montessori ideas from my distant past for her. She tried them, asked for more, and a month later told me, “My son’s teachers want to know what I’m doing with him – he has completely turned around!”

I was happy but not surprised, having seen so many children ‘normalize’ after spending time in Montessori prepared environments.  The experience did, however, jog my memory of the book I wrote in the 1980’s called Math Activities At Home (for 2-7 Year Old Children). Without any internet, blog, self-publishing, or marketing experience, I sold about 100 copies. Unfortunately the project died and life moved forwards.

When did you bring Montessori At Home to the internet

The first edition of Montessori at Home! was finished in January, 2011. A couple of wonderful bloggers asked me about doing reviews & giveaways. The first one came out on 4/1/11 and to my pleasant surprise, was a big hit! Many more have followed, and everyone has had good things to say about the book. For folks who prefer a book to hold, I condensed the ebook into a paperback titled Help Your Preschooler Build a Better Brain - it's available on Amazon.

As of 8/1/11 over 600 copies of Montessori At Home! have been sent all over the world. The paperback has been out three months and has sold just over 200 copies. In fairness, the paperback version has only been publicized on a few blogs. The ebook has found a growing niche, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I truly want to give parents the resources to be able to give their children the same brain-building experiences kids get in Montessori schools, right at home, and without breaking the bank.

What has this process been like

The whole process has been exhilarating, overwhelmingly positive, and fun! So many people have helped me in this process, especially Carisa at 1+1+1=1. She is a real gem! And all the help, positive comments, and photos from the 'Mom bloggers' has been terrific.

What is on the horizon for Montessori At Home

A second edition of Montessori At Home! is in the process (was launched Oct 2011), with many more activities and links, and a more polished graphic look. I’ll send this second edition free to all parents who purchased the original edition (all previous purchasers have now received the new edition). Montessori At Home! is also being translated in to Spanish, and will be available as soon as possible.

My new web site will be ready soon too (it's up and running now!), along with a Facebook and Twitter page - thanks to Liloc Studios. Yes, I'm going to attempt social networking! And now there is this wonderful new association with Montessori Print Shop, with printable materials that perfectly compliment the activities in the book! I look forward to big things and getting a movement of new parents doing early learning at home.
